Psoriasis is a skin disease that can disfigure, debilitate, and demoralise patients. It is also a disease that is misunderstood.
Psoriasis is often misdiagnosed by general practitioners. Meanwhile, the general public remains unaware that psoriasis is not contagious, and that psoriasis is difficult enough to handle even without the social stigma. Patients themselves are often not equipped with the adequate knowledge to live with psoriasis.
To this end, PDM this year has embarked on an awareness campaign to help people better understand psoriasis.
The KULIT concept is an acronym for the management of psoriasis. Each letter relates to a specific aspect of the disease. Knowledge is essential. U is shorthand for you, the individual. L is for living with psoriasis and the day-to-day challenges facing a psoriasis patient. Interaction with others – be it with family members, friends, fellow workers, physicians, or support groups – is very important. And finally, Treatment of psoriasis is essential.
Here you will find an FAQ on psoriasis (and psoriatic arthritis), and also the community messages and full-length articles as and when they appear in the New Sunday Times as part of KULIT. There will also be some news later on our KULIT public forum.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about psoriasis.
