History
The Dermatological Society of Malaysia was formed in 1974 by a small group of Malaysian dermatologists Drs B A Adam, T S Cheah and D S Nagreh who saw the need with a growing membership, and the necessity of networking with other regional Dermatological Societies.
Apart from the Annual Meetings, the society began to take on regional roles in organizing the Regional Conference of Dermatology starting with the 4th RCD meeting in Penang, and thence rotating regularly with the other member nations.
The Annual Dermatology Conference is held in conjunction with its Annual General Meeting and is unique in being a happy blend of work and play. These yearly academic meetings is also a time for fellowship amongst dermatologists and their families, and have helped to make our Society a close-knit group of dermatologists, where our children grow up together in the true Malaysian spirit of harmony and Muhibah.
With prudent management over the years, the Society has been able to accumulate sufficient funds to sponsor numerous research projects especially by trainees engaged in the local Masters in Dermatology postgraduate program.
In May 2002, the Society also realized its dream of acquiring its own property in the Rumah Dermatology located in the pleasant hills of Pantai Panorama. It serves as a home base for members, both local and visiting, as well as for small meetings and celebratory events.
In 2015, the official address of the Society was moved to Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur as its pemanent base.
As of 2015, the Society has 111 full members and 5 honorary members, and affiliated to the League of Asian Dermatological Societies (LADS), The Asian Dermatology Congress and the International League of Dermatology Societies.
